2026 Sociology Graduation Celebration

Event Comments:

We look forward to celebrating with the Class of 2026 and their immediate families and friends at the Sociology Graduation Celebration, held at Meany Hall Auditorium on the UW-Seattle campus. 

The festivities at Meany Hall will include: 

  • Pre-show for guests: graduating student slides, 6:00-7:00PM 
  • Formal procession of Faculty and Graduates, 7:00PM 
  • Chair's Welcome 
  • Department Undergraduate Awards
  • Hooding of Ph.D. students 
  • Individual Recognition of all Graduates 
  • Recessional 
  • Post-event photo opportunities with Professors, Instructors, TAs, and fellow graduates in the Meany Lobby

Cap & Gown Required? / Dress Code

Yes
The Sociology Graduation Celebration is a formal event, and graduates are required to wear Caps & Gowns. Graduates order and pay for their academic apparel on the Commencement website, whether or not they intend to participate in the Commencement Ceremony.

WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT STUDENTS PLACE THEIR ORDERS EARLY AND CHOOSE AN EARLY PICKUP DATE.

Ticket Information:

Requests for tickets are made by graduates when they register for the Sociology Graduation Celebration.

Eligible students will receive an email from the Sociology Student Services team with information and alink to our RSVP/Registration form in early/mid May (our registration typically opens on the same day as Commencement Registration). Students may request up to 5 tickets. The tickets are free.

Meany Hall has limited audience seating; if more graduates participate, the availability of guest tickets decreases. Actual paper tickets are required for all guests including young children. Babes in arms do not need tickets but toddlers do. Graduates do not need tickets. Only guests with tickets are admitted to Meany Hall. Lost tickets cannot be replaced.

The official UW Commencement ceremony in Husky Stadium on Saturday June 13, 2026, can accommodate large family and friend groups.

Parking Information

If you wish to park on campus for this event, a UW Special Event Parking Permit will be required. Students should purchase these permits for themselves and their guests through the Commencement Registration/Order Form, Mid May to May 24, 2026. Day of parking may be available for additional cost, but lot selection and availability are not guaranteed.
